How to Overcome a Plateau

Let’s talk about overcoming plateaus and how to manage your stress about exercising!

Everyone will reach a plateau at some point along the way. Until you get good at predicting what your body will do, it’s always beneficial to seek help from a professional to avoid plateaus completely!
If you’ve ended up hitting the wall anyways, these hacks could break the mold and get you right back on track!

Switch it Up

Change your routine…and I mean CHANGE IT. Do things completely foreign to your body and challenge yourself to take on an entirely different style of exercise. If you’re used to lifting weight, switch to yoga, if you’re used to only doing yoga, try kickboxing. No, you don’t have to do it forever but your body will really appreciate the different movement and you’ll end up returning to your routine feeling amazing!

Add Cardio… or Ditch It!

Basically if all you’re doing is cardio and not seeing any change, hop off the treadmill and seek out a weight lifting program. You can always add in running again down the road but if your goals are suffering from your habit, you need to change them.

Give Yourself a Break.

Yes… a break! Stay out of the gym, eat mindfully but not strict and focus on managing stress and getting more sleep. Stress alters your body’s chemicals and will actually prevent you from moving forward, you’ll feel like your fighting with your body and that’s not ok. You and your body are on the same team and most of the time it’s your brain you have to correct. So take a week off! Maybe two! You might lose a little strength but you’ll be able to push past that plateau and get stronger in the long run!
